. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Gaylord Perry allowed only four hits and won his 13th straight game, pitching the Indians to an 11-0 victory, but the Red Sox came back to beat Gaylord's brother Jim, 6-3. Separate-admission day and night games attracted a total of 49,405 paid. The Indians piled up 20 hits in support of Gaylord Perry. Frank Duffy collected four hits including a homer, and drove in five runs. Dave Duncan accounted for three RBIs with a bases-loaded double.

In the night game, the Indians jumped off to a 3-0 lead, getting two runs on a homer by Charlie Spikes and another on a triple by Oscar Gamble and an error. The Red Sox got one run back in the second and and then knocked out Jim Perry while scoring four times in the third. A walk to Dwight Evans, single by Carl Yastrzemski and pass to Carlton Fisk loaded the bases. Evans beat the throw home on a grounder by Rico Petrocelli. Juan Beniquez and Mario Guerrero followed with run-scoring singles before Tommy Harper added a tally with a sacrifice fly. Rick Burleson homered for the Red Sox in the sixth. Roger Moret pitched four scoreless innings in relief of Reggie Cleveland, who had to leave the game after being hit on the left hand by a line drive. [The Sporting News]
