Lynn McGlothen became the N. L.'s second 10-game winner of the season, joining Tommy John of the Dodgers, when the Cardinals scored three unearned runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Expos, 4-3. Before coming to the Cards, McGlothen won a total of only nine games in two years of partial service with the Red Sox. The Expos had a homer by Ken Singleton in taking a 3-1 lead, with the Cards' run coming on a round-tripper by Ted Simmons.

In the seventh, Ken Reitz was safe on an error by Ron Hunt and Jim Dwyer hit a pinch-single. Reggie Smith, batting for McGlothen, lifted a fly to left fielder Bob Bailey, who dropped the ball, allowing Reitz to score. With first base open Steve Rogers walked Lou Brock intentionally. When the Expos' starter threw three balls to Ted Sizemore, John Montague relieved and completed the pass, forcing in the Cards' tying run. Montague's next pitch hit Simmons to force in Tom Heintzelman, who ran for Smith. [The Sporting News]
