. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Ron Schueler pitched a five-hitter in the opener to end a personal five-game losing streak and Wayne Twitchell, making his first start of the season, was the winner of the nightcap with help from Jesus Hernaiz as the Phillies defeated the Mets in a twi-night doubleheader, 5-2 and 8-5. The Phils made quick work of Harry Parker in the first game, starting with three runs in the first inning on a single by Larry Bowa, double by Del Unser, triple by Mike Schmidt and infield out by Tommy Hutton. Parker was kayoed in the second when the Phils added a run on a single by Willie Montanez, sacrifice by Schueler and single by Dave Cash. Montanez doubled and scored on a single by Bob Boone in the fourth before the Mets picked up their pair in the sixth on a single by Wayne Garrett and homer by Rusty Staub.

The Phillies enjoyed a pair of four-run innings in the nightcap. In the second, Bill Robinson hit a homer, Cash doubled to drive in another run and Bowa accounted for two with a single. The Phillies then went to work for four more runs in the fifth on a double by Schmidt, singles by Robinson and Mike Anderson, a balk by Bob Apodaca and singles by Montanez and Cash. Ken Boswell and John Milner hit homers for the Mets. [The Sporting News]
