In another of their last-ditch victories, the Dodgers scored twice in the ninth inning to defeat the Braves, 2-1, marking the 15th time this season that they had won a game in their last time at bat. The Braves counted their run off Andy Messersmith in the eighth on a single by Craig Robinson, sacrifice by Max Leon and infield hits by Ralph Garr and Darrell Evans.

Messersmith was removed for a pinch-hitter and Mike Marshall, who pitched the ninth, was the winner on a Dodgers' rally. Bill Buckner began it with a single and scored the tying run on singles by Jim Wynn and Steve Garvey. After a pass to Willie Crawford loaded the bases, Ron Cey singled to score Wynn with the winning run. [The Sporting News]
