. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Hitting his first homer of the season, Ed Kranepool drove in three runs to help Jerry Koosman pitch the Mets to a 5-1 victory over the Cubs. The Mets scored once on singles by Ken Boswell, Don Hahn and Ted Martinez in the second inning before Jerry Grote walked, Rusty Staub singled and Kranepool hit his homer in the third. Koosman's bid for a shutout was spoiled when Rick Monday homered in the sixth. The Mets' last run counted in the ninth on a single by Cleon Jones and double by Staub. [The Sporting News]
