The Cardinals piled up six runs in the first two innings and Lynn McGlothen took it from there to record his 11th victory of the season, defeating the Mets, 6-1. With the help of an error by Wayne Garrett, the Cards scored two unearned runs in the first before knocking out Ray Sadecki in the second when they added four runs on singles by Mike Tyson and Lou Brock, sacrifice fly by Ted Sizemore and doubles by Reggie Smith, Ted Simmons and Joe Torre. McGlothen was deprived of a shutout when Ron Hodges walked and Cleon Jones tripled in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
