Mike Marshall extended his record streak of relief appearances for the Dodgers to 12 games in a row and gained his 10th victory when Willie Crawford singled and Ron Cey tripled in the eighth inning to beat the Reds, 3-2. Marshall stopped the Reds on four hits in the last four frames after taking over for Don Sutton.

The Reds scored their two runs in the first on a single by Ken Griffey and homer by Joe Morgan. The Dodgers got one run back when Crawford tripled and Joe Ferguson grounded out in the second, and their tying tally followed in the fifth on a single by Dave Lopes, his theft of second and single by Steve Garvey.
