Dave Schneck, who had been in an 0-for-16 slump, broke out with two run-scoring singles for his first RBIs since May 21 to pace the Mets to a 3-2 victory over the Giants. In the first inning, Cleon Jones was safe on an error by Tito Fuentes, advanced to second on an infield out and scored on a single by Schneck.

The Mets added their two other runs in the fourth on a pass to John Milner, singles by Jerry Grote and Schneck and double by Ted Martinez.
