Doling out three hits, Andy Messersmith shut out the Phillies, 4-0, behind a nine-hit Dodger attack which included a two-run homer by batterymate Steve Yeager which broke a scoreless tie in the fourth. L.A. scored their final two runs in the sixth without getting the ball out of the infield. The Dodgers loaded the bases on a hit batsman, walk and fielder's choice. Davey Lopes followed with an infield single and Bill Buckner plated the the fourth run with an infield out.
