Leading off the ninth inning, George Scott homered for his fourth RBI of the game to bring the Brewers a 6-5 victory over the White Sox. Scott knocked in a run with a single in the first, but the White Sox came back with a four-run outburst in the second on singles by Bill Sharp and Ed Herrmann, safe squeeze bunt by Bucky Dent and homer by Jorge Orta.

The Brewers pulled even in the fifth, scoring three times on a single by Robin Yount, double by Johnny Briggs and singles by Scott, Bob Coluccio and Dave May. Yount doubled in the sixth and came around to score on infield outs by Briggs and Scott. The White Sox then tied the score with consecutive singles by Sharp, Herrmann and Tony Muser in the eighth.
