Erupting for six runs in the eighth inning, the Cubs clinched an 11-3 victory over the Reds. Steve Swisher walked with the bases loaded and hit a homer, and Jerry Morales drove in two runs with a grounder and double as the Cubs built up a 5-0 lead before the Reds got on the board when Johnny Bench doubled with the sacks filled in the seventh.

Billy Grabarkewitz and Swisher started the Cubs' outburst in the eighth with singles and, after a sacrifice, both runners scored on a double by Don Kessinger. Rick Monday followed with a triple, Jose Cardenal walked and Andre Thornton then capped the Cubs' scoring with a three-run homer. [The Sporting News]
