The Twins, who were their own worst enemies, committing four errors that led to six unearned runs, finally overcame their fielding deficiencies with five runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Tigers, 11-6. Larry Hisle drove in the Twins' first four runs with a homer and single. Two tallies that tied the score at 6-6 followed in the sixth on singles by Eric Soderholm and Craig Kusick, sacrifice bunt by Danny Thompson, sacrifice fly by Glenn Borgmann and double by Rod Carew.

In the eighth, Carew hit his second double of the game to drive in Kusick with the tie-breaking run. The Twins then loaded the bases and the other markers scored on a walk to Harmon Killebrew and singles by Bobby Darwin and Soderholm. [The Sporting News]
