Mike Marshall's string of nine straight victories in relief came to an end when the Phillies scored in the ninth inning to beat the Dodgers' iron man, 5-4. Marshall, taking over as the Dodgers' third pitcher of the game, gave up a single by Tommy Hutton, sent the runner to second with a wild pitch and then was beaten when Dave Cash singled. Davey Lopes had four hits, including a homer, and drove in two of the Dodgers' runs. Joe Ferguson accounted for the other pair with a round-tripper. The Phillies, who had a two-run homer by Del Unser, tied the score at 4-4 in the seventh when Dave Cash singled with the bases loaded. [The Sporting News] |
