. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Reggie Cleveland, who had given up 125 hits in 108 innings previously this season, turned in a six-hit performance and pitched the Red Sox to a 3-1 win over Texas. The Red Sox worked a double steal to score the first of two runs in the fourth inning. Dwight Evans singled and stopped at second on a single by Carl Yastrzemski. After Bob Montgomery forced Yaz, Evans and Montgomery worked a double steal with Evans scoring. Rick Burleson followed with a double to drive in Montgomery. The Rangers broke Cleveland's shutout bid with a run in the eighth on a double by Lenny Randle and single by Cesar Tovar, but Montgomery clinched the victory with a homer in the Red Sox half of the eighth.
