A wild pitch by Grant Jackson with two out in the ninth inning enabled Brian Downing to score and brought the White Sox a 4-3 victory over the Orioles. Earlier in the game, Downing homered in the fifth inning for the first White Sox hit. Tommy Davis drove in two of the Orioles' three runs. The White Sox tied the score in the eighth. After Bucky Dent singled and was forced by Lee Richard, Carlos May fouled out, but singles by Dick Allen and Bill Melton scored Richard and when Paul Blair threw wildly from center field, Allen also crossed the plate.

Downing walked in the ninth before Jackson took over as the Orioles' fifth pitcher of the game. Downing took second on a sacrifice, moved to third on an infield out and then scored on Jackson's wild pitch. [The Sporting News]
