Backed by three double plays, Claude Osteen escaped trouble while pitching the Astros to a 4-0 victory over the Cubs. Osteen gave up eight hits. The Astros also had only eight hits, but they included a double by Milt May and homer by Doug Rader in the second inning. The other two runs scored in the third on a pass to Greg Gross and singles by Roger Metzger, Cesar Cedeno and Bob Watson. [The Sporting News]
