Jim Wynn homered after a single by Bill Buckner in the first inning and that was enough to enable Andy Messersmith to pitch the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the Mets. Wynn's wallop was his first since hitting two homers on June 22 and condemned Harry Parker to defeat. The Mets scored their run in the eighth on singles by Ted Martinez, Ed Kranepool and Wayne Garrett and infield out by Ken Boswell. [The Sporting News]
