The streaking Yankees piled up 17 hits and enjoyed two big innings while defeating the Athletics. 12-6, for their sixth straight victory. The Yankees sent 10 men to bat in the fifth and scored five runs. Two walks and a single by Roy White loaded the bases for Bobby Murcer, who drove in two runs with a double. A sacrifice fly by Lou Piniella and singles by Graig Nettles and Bill Sudakis added three tallies before the inning ended. Coming back in the seventh, 12 Yankees went to the plate during a six-run outburst that included a double by Thurman Munson and six singles.
