. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Angels beat the Indians for the first time in 10 meetings this season as Nolan Ryan, with ninth-inning help, hurled California to a 4-2 triumph, ending his personal three-game losing streak. Ryan had a three-hit shutout through eight innings before a double by George Hendrick and single by Buddy Bell produced the first Indian run. Relievers Luis Quintana and Dave Sells preserved Ryan's 11th victory, although Cleveland tallied once more on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Luis Alvarado.

California took a 2-0 lead in the second on singles by Ellie Rodriguez, Denny Doyle and Orlando Ramirez and groundout by Mickey Rivers. Loser Steve Arlin walked Leroy Stanton and Frank Robinson in the third, and reliever Tom Hilgendorf surrendered a single to Bobby Valentine which loaded the bases. Bob Oliver's sacrifice fly then produced the third Angel run, and the winners added an insurance tally in the top of the ninth. [The Sporting News]
