A ninth-inning single by Steve Brye drove in Luis Gomez with the winning run as the Twins edged the Brewers in come-from-behind fashion, 4-3. Bob Coluccio's single and stolen base, a groundout and single by Darrell Porter gave Milwaukee a 1-0 lead in the first. The Brewers made it 2-0 in the seventh when Dave May reached first on an error, moved to second on Pedro Garcia's sacrifice and came home on John Vukovich's single.

But the Twins knocked out starter Bill Champion during a three-run home half of the same inning. Jim Holt's RBI single came on the heels of two walks and, after pinch-hitter Tony Oliva was walked intentionally to fill the bases, Glenn Borgmann singled home two runs. Porter's single, a throwing error, base hit by Mike Hegan and run-scoring single by pinch-batter Charlie Moore pulled the Brewers into a 3-3 tie in the eighth.
