Don Hood pitched four innings of no-hit relief for the Orioles and was rewarded with a victory when Don Baylor homered in the 10th to beat the Angels, 5-4. The Orioles were ahead, 4-1, after three innings, the Angels' run coming on a homer by Denny Doyle, but Ross Grimsley failed to hold the lead.

The Angels picked up two runs in the sixth on a single by Orlando Ramirez and doubles by Leroy Stanton and Frank Robinson. Grimsley was kayoed in the seventh when Bob Oliver singled and Rodriguez walked. After Hood relieved, the Angels' tying run scored on two successive forceouts at second base. [The Sporting News]
