A grand slam by Deron Johnson climaxed a five-run rally in the ninth inning and brought the Brewers a 5-3 victory in the second game of a doubleheader after the White Sox won the first game, 6-2. In the opener, Jim Kaat gained his seventh straight victory and the White Sox extended their winning streak to seven games. Dick Allen hit a homer and two doubles in support of Kaat. Bill Melton also homered in the White Sox attack.

In the nightcap, Stan Bahnsen, who started for the White Sox, held the Brewers hitless until Johnny Briggs singled with one out in the seventh inning. However, after Bob Hansen and Mike Hegan rapped singles in the ninth, Bahnsen was removed in favor of Terry Forster. Briggs struck out, but George Scott singled to drive in Hansen.
