Willie McCovey hit two homers, each with a man on base, and Dave Winfield joined in the attack with three RBIs as the Padres defeated the Mets, 7-3. Doubles by Enzo Hernandez and Winfield accounted for the Padres' initial run in the first inning and they took a 3-1 lead in the third when Hernandez singled and McCovey homered.

Bill Greif, who was the winner with the help of Randy Jones, singled in the fifth and Hernandez walked. After an infield out, both scored on a single by Winfield. McCovey followed with his second homer of the game and 425th of his career. [The Sporting News]
