Jim Northrup's line single with one out in the 11th inning scored Gary Sutherland from second and gave the Tigers a 1-0 win over the Red Sox. Sutherland had reached first on Rico Petrocelli's error and moved to second on Al Kaline's sacrifice. It was a tough loss for Reggie Cleveland who had pitched no-hit ball for 7 2/3 innings and yielded only two safe knocks until Northrup's blow.
