. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Red Sox broke a tie on a pass with the bases loaded in the sixth inning and went on to defeat the Yankees, 8-3. Rick Burleson knocked in two runs with a double in the first when the Red Sox took a 3-0 lead, but the Yankees picked up a pair in the third with a triple by Thurman Munson as the key blow and tied the score with a homer by Lou Piniella in the fifth.

In the sixth, Rick Miller walked, Rico Petrocelli singled and when the Yankees failed in an attempted forceout on Carl Yastrzemski, all hands were safe. Dave Pagan, pitching for the Yankees, then walked Bernie Carbo on four straight balls to force in the go-ahead run. Cecil Cooper added another tally with a single. The Red Sox wrapped up the verdict with three additional runs in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
