Cesar Geronimo tripled in the third inning and homered in the fourth, each time setting off a four-run outburst, to spark the Reds to a 9-4 victory over the Giants. After hitting his triple, Geronimo scored on a single by Pete Rose. The Reds went on to add three other runs in the stanza with the aid of two walks given up by Ed Halicki, two wild pitches, an error by the Giants' starter and single by Ken Griffey.
