Stolen bases by Bill North and Herb Washington set up two runs after two were out in the eighth inning to enable the Athletics to defeat the White Sox, 3-2. North started the uprising with a single and pilfered second. The theft was his third of the game. Sal Bando followed with a single, driving in North and tying the score at 2-2. Washington then ran for Bando, stole second and counted what proved to be the winning run when Reggie Jackson singled.

The A's got their first run in the second. Joe Rudi was hit by a pitch and completed his journey around the sacks on a single by Gene Tenace, forceout of Tenace by Angel Mangual and infield out by Dick Green. Vida Blue, who gained his fifth straight victory, fell behind when Buddy Bradford singled and Dick Allen homered for the White Sox runs in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
