Rookie Greg Gross collected five singles and Don Wilson threw shutout ball for seven innings and chipped in with three hits himself as the Astros defeated the Giants, 7-2. Wilson doubled and scored the first run of the game in the third, and the Astros broke it open with a four-run seventh, Gross and Lee May each driving in a run, while Milt May sent in two.

The Giants picked up their first run in the eighth on pinch-singles by Dave Rader and Gary Thomasson around a Wilson balk. The Astros counted two more runs in the top of the ninth to offset Bobby Bonds' solo homer in the bottom of the inning. [The Sporting News]
