The Brewers, who had been held scoreless for 22 innings, broke their slump with four runs off Luis Tiant and defeated the Red Sox, 5-3. The Brewers also ended Tiant's string of six consecutive complete-game victories. In the third inning, Robin Yount and Dave May singled. Don Money doubled, driving in Yount with the Brewers' first run. Johnny Briggs and George Scott followed with RBI singles and Darrell Porter added the fourth run with an infield out. Porter also accounted for the Brewers' final tally with a homer off Dick Drago in the seventh.

The Brewers almost blew the game in the ninth when Tom Murphy, in relief of Bill Champion, walked Doug Griffin and Dick McAuliffe with the bases loaded, forcing in two runs, before getting Tommy Harper on a grounder for the third out. [The Sporting News]
