An infield hit by Jim Nettles with the bases loaded in the ninth inning and errors by Tom Buskey and Tommy McCraw enabled the Tigers to score three runs to defeat the Indians, 4-3. The Indians, who had a two-run homer by Charlie Spikes, held a 3-1 lead before Gary Sutherland opened the Tigers' rally with a one-out double. Ben Oglivie walked with two away and Bill Freehan singled to load the bases.

Nettles then hit a slow roller which McCraw fielded. Sutherland scored and when Buskey, covering first base, mishandled the toss from McCraw, Oglivie also crossed the plate. Aurelio Rodriguez followed with a grounder to Ed Crosby, but McCraw juggled the throw to first and Rodriguez was safe as Freehan came home to score the winning run. [The Sporting News]
