Staked to a four-run lead in the second inning, Bill Lee pitched the Red Sox to a 6-2 victory over the Athletics. Singles by Dwight Evans and Bob Montgomery, plus a pass to Danny Cater, loaded the bases for the Red Sox in the second. Juan Beniquez delivered two runs with a double and two more followed on an infield out by Doug Griffin and error by Dal Maxvill. Rico Petrocelli homered in the third.
