Accounting for all of the Royals' scoring, Fred Patek doubled home two runs in the eighth inning and drove in another with a single in 10th to beat the Orioles, 3-2. Jim Palmer, making his second start for the Orioles since coming off the disabled list, pitched seven scoreless innings. The Royals broke through against reliever Grant Jackson in the eighth when Jim Wohlford walked, George Brett singled and Patek doubled. The Orioles chased Paul Splittorff in their half and tied the score with a single by Rich Coggins, pass to Paul Blair, single by Tommy Davis and sacrifice fly by Bobby Grich.

With Bob Reynolds on the mound for the Orioles in the 10th, Wohlford singled, took second on a sacrifice by Brett, moved to third on an infield out by Fran Healy and scored on Patek's single. Steve Mingori was the winner in relief. [The Sporting News]
