The Twins hit for the cycle in the fifth inning, getting a homer, triple, double and two singles, to score four runs en route to a 7-4 victory over the Red Sox. Craig Kusick homered for the Twins in the second, but the Red Sox held a 4-1 lead before the Twins began their outburst with a single by Bobby Darwin and homer by Harmon Killebrew in the fifth. Eric Soderholm followed with a double and scored on a single by Kusick before Jerry Terrell tripled to cap the inning.

Dwight Evans of the Red Sox tied the A. L. record for most putouts by a right fielder in one game, nine. [The Sporting News]
