The Expos rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Padres, 8-7. Most of the game's scoring was confined to the first three innings which ended in a 6-6 tie. Derrel Thomas and Dave Hilton batted in two runs apiece for the Padres and Bob Bailey hit a homer for the Expos. Gene Locklear broke the deadlock with a pinch-homer for the Padres in the eighth.

Jim Northrup started the Expos' rally in the ninth with a one-out single. Larry Lintz ran for Northrup and, after an infield out, scored the tying run on a single by Barry Foote. Dave Winfield made a bad throw from the outfield, allowing Foote to reach third.
