A homer by Ralph Garr with two men on base in the third inning started the Braves off to a 7-2 victory over the Expos. Mike Lum also homered for the Braves' first run, but the score was tied when Vic Correll was hit by a pitch, Phil Niekro was safe on an error and Garr provided the decisive blow with his round-tripper.
