The Giants scored a run in the first on a single by Tito Fuentes and double by Gary Thomasson. Kingman made it 2-0 with a homer in the fourth.

The Pirates were checked until the eighth when Art Howe walked and scored on singles by Gene Clines and Rennie Stennett. Willie Stargell then tied the score with a homer in the ninth.
