Bake McBride singled in the eighth inning for his third hit of the game and, after two out, scored on a pinch-single by Jim Dwyer to bring the Cardinals a 5-4 victory over the Expos. Mike Jorgensen batted in three of the Expos' runs with a homer and double.

After the Expos counted three times in the third inning on a single by Larry Lintz, a stolen base, single by Willie Davis and homer by Jorgensen, the Cardinals pecked away to go ahead, 4-3. But the Expos tied the score in the eighth when Davis singled and Jorgensen doubled.
