After falling behind by five runs, the Reds battled back to gain a 7-5 victory over the Dodgers when Joe Morgan homered off Mike Marshall with a man on base in the eighth inning. A double by Davey Lopes led to a run in the first inning before the Dodgers knocked out Clay Kirby and made it 5-0 in the second. Bill Buckner accounted for two runs with a homer. The Reds got back into the game when Dan Driessen and Cesar Geronimo singled and Dave Concepcion homered in their half of the second. The Reds then tied the score in the fifth on a homer by Johnny Bench, pass to Driessen and singles by Geronimo and Concepcion.

Marshall relieved in the eighth for his 92nd appearance of the season, tying his own major league record set with the Expos last season. After putting down a Reds' threat in that inning, Marshall wound up the loser in the next stanza when Pete Rose walked and Morgan hit his homer. [The Sporting News]
