The Red Sox snapped an eight-game losing streak when Mario Guerrero hit a bloop single with the bases loaded and two out in the 10th inning to drive in the run that beat the Brewers, 4-3. The Brewers clipped Bill Lee for all their runs in the third on a double by Ken Berry, infield hit by Johnny Briggs, double by Gorman Thomas and single by Bobby Mitchell.

The Red Sox came back with two runs in the fourth and tied the score in the fifth when Guerrero doubled and Juan Beniquez singled. In the 10th, Rico Petrocelli singled with two out, Tim McCarver doubled and Dick McAuliffe walked to load the bases before Guerrero singled to give the victory to Reggie Cleveland in relief.
