Jim Barr scattered six hits and pitched the Giants to a 6-0 victory over the Braves. The game was marked by five balks -- two called on Barr and three on Phil Niekro, the Braves' loser. A balk by Niekro in the second inning moved Gary Matthews into position to score the Giants' first run on a single by Steve Ontiveros.

Another balk by Niekro and a throwing error by Vic Correll produced two runs in the fourth. The Giants iced the contest against Lew Krausse in the eighth, scoring their final three runs. Matthews drove in one with a single and Ontiveros accounted for two with a double. [The Sporting News]
