With home run help from Ron Cey and Steve Garvey, rookie Geoff Zahn pitched his first complete-game victory as the Dodgers overpowered the Braves, 8-1. Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead into the third, then wrapped up the victory with three runs, Jim Wynn delivering an RBI single ahead of Garvey's homer. After the Braves had scored an unearned run in the fourth, Atlanta reliever Lew Krausse wild-pitched home Bill Russell in the seventh.
