Aiming for 3,000 hits, Al Kaline rapped a single and double, bringing his career total to 2,987, but the Tigers otherwise collected only three other hits off Jim Slaton in losing to the Brewers, 3-0. The Brewers also were held to five hits, but used them to better advantage.
