A sacrifice fly by Dick McAuliffe with the bases loaded in the eighth inning drove in the winning run for the Red Sox, who ended their three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Indians. John Ellis drove in a run for the Indians with a single in the first before the Red Sox moved ahead with two in the fifth on a single by Rico Petrocelli, double by McAuliffe, sacrifice by Rick Burleson and single by Tommy Harper. Charlie Spikes tied the score with a homer in the sixth.

Carl Yastrzemski doubled in the eighth and Deron Johnson sacrificed. Bernie Carbo and Petrocelli walked to load the bases. After Tom Buskey took the mound in relief of Jim Perry, McAuliffe hit his fly to left field, scoring Yastrzemski. [The Sporting News]
