Bill Greif yielded only six singles and pitched the Padres to a 4-1 victory over the Astros. The Padres had seven hits, including a homer by Fred Kendall for the only extra-base blow of the game. Kendall's clout in the second inning broke a 1-1 tie. The Padres then clinched the verdict with two runs in the sixth on singles by Jerry Turner and Johnny Grubb, an error on a bunt by Randy Elliott and single by Mike Ivie. [The Sporting News]
