Manager Walter Alston called on Al Downing for his first start since August 13 and the Dodgers' veteran lefthander responded by allowing only two hits in his first complete game of the season and shutting out the Giants, 11-0. The Dodgers piled up 15 hits in support of Downing. Bill Russell drove in four runs with three singles and an infield out, while Ron Cey and Steve Garvey each accounted for two RBIs.
