Mike Wallace, making his first A. L. start after winning five straight games in relief, joined with Dick Tidrow in pitching the Yankees to a 3-0 victory over the Orioles. Wallace allowed only three hits before being lifted with two men on base and two out in the eighth inning. Tidrow retired Tommy Davis and then gave up one hit while setting down the Orioles in the ninth. The Yankees broke through for all their runs off Jim Palmer in the eighth on singles by Roy White, Bobby Murcer, Graig Nettles and Chris Chambliss and a double by Lou Piniella. [The Sporting News] |
