An unearned run enabled the Athletics to defeat the Twins, 2-1, in a duel between Ken Holtzman and Bert Blyleven. The A's opened the scoring with a run in the first inning on a single by Bill North, infield out by Bert Campaneris and single by Sal Bando. The Twins came back in their half with a triple by Larry Hisle and single by Bobby Darwin.

The A's broke the tie in the eighth after North reached base on an error by Danny Thompson. North moved to second on a single by Campaneris, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bando. [The Sporting News]
