. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Reggie Smith drove in four runs with a homer and single and the Cardinals picked up three other runs on an error by Dave Schneck to defeat the Mets, 12-5. The Mets jumped on Bob Gibson for four runs in the fourth inning, starting their outburst with a homer by John Milner, before the Cardinals struck back for six runs in the sixth.

Ted Sizemore singled and Smith hit his homer to open the rally. Singles by Ted Simmons and Ken Reitz and a pass to Danny Godby loaded the bases. Simmons scored on a passed ball. After Ron Hunt walked to reload the sacks, Keith Hernandez hit a line drive that Schneck dropped in center field and three runs scored on the error. Smith accounted for his two other RBIs with a bases-loaded single in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
