Although collecting 14 hits, the Royals lost the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 7-5, but they came back with 17 hits in the second game and trounced the Twins, 13-3. The Twins, who had 11 hits in the lidlifter, broke a 2-2 tie with four runs off Paul Splittorff on two walks and four singles in the fifth inning. Eric Soderholm knocked in two runs and Craig Kusick and Danny Thompson accounted for one apiece.

In the nightcap, the Royals had two big innings, scoring six runs in the second and seven in the third. Buck Martinez had the biggest blow in the second, socking a homer with two men on base. The Royals had four other hits during the stanza and also benefited from two errors.
