The Cardinals decided the outcome with four runs in the second inning. Bake McBride singled for one of his four hits in the game and Ken Reitz and Curtis walked to load the bases.

Lou Brock singled, driving in McBride and Reitz. When Bill Robinson in center field let the ball get past him, Curtis and Brock also scored on the error.
